SUNSET a€" LaVerne Hunter Young, age 80, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at her home.

She was born October 4, 1929 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Lyman Weaver Hunter and Mildred Oyler. She married Robert Wight Young on October 22, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

LaVerne was raised in West Weber. After she married she lived in Taylor for 13 years, Washington Terrace for five years and Sunset, Utah since 1965. She graduated from Weber High School. LaVerne was a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in the Gleaners Program and various Relief Society callings. She was employed with Hill Air Force Base at the time of her retirement. She was greatly loved by her family and friends and she will be sorely missed.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Leon Hunter, her parents, a son-in-law and a granddaughter. She is survived by two sons, Robert N. (Janice) Young of Sunset, Utah and Steven A. Young of Portland, Oregon, one daughter Nadean (Jason) Gabbert of Sunset, Utah; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
