LaVon Johnson Russell
November 13, 1926 ~ April 19, 2019
At 92 years young, LaVon Johnson Russell, surrounded by her children, returned into the loving open arms of her Father in Heaven.
She was born on November 13, 1926, the daughter of John Henry and Marian Jones Johnson, of North Ogden. LaVon graduated from the Old Weber High School in 1945 and Cosmetology School in 1946. She was a purchasing agent at Carter Supply and retired from the B.S.A.
LaVon met and married Raymond E. Russell on November 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They later divorced.
Mom loved the Lord and served in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her greatest joy in serving the Lord was as temple worker and a teacher. Her latest calling was that of First Counselor in the Jefferson Branch Relief Society Presidency.
Mom loved to sing, walk, and especially spend time with her children, grandchildren, and many dear friends. Mom loved to travel and visited Alaska which was on her bucket list.
LaVon is survived by her sister, Laura Berry; children, Gail (Doug) McNeely, Cheryl (Lyman) Stoker, Donald Ray (Teri) Russell, Ann (Bruce) Cheney, and LaRae Russell; 19 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. LaVon believed her greatest accomplishment was her large posterity. She was preceded in death by her son, John; two granddaughters, parents, and siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Mount Lewis 4th Ward, 950 North 550 East, Ogden. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
