Lavonda May Owen Stitt

October 15, 1932 ~ May 9, 2018

“Hey Mom-you are in the obituaries this morning so you don’t need to fix your oats!”

Lavonda May Owen Stitt, 85, passed away on May 9, 2018 at Saint Mark’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family after suffering a stroke. She was born on October 15, 1932 in Logan, Utah to William Lavon and May Jensen Owen. She moved as a twelve year old to Ogden, Utah.
Lavonda married Donald C Stitt on December 9, 1950, they were later sealed in the Logan Temple.  They celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Lavonda attended and graduated from Weber High School in 1950. She later returned to ATC to receive her certification as an electronics assembler.  She began her work life as a carhop at the J & K Drive-In in Ogden, Utah.  Lavonda worked at the JJ Newberry Five and Dime store in Ogden, and at the Coronett Five & Dime in Las Vegas, NV.  She worked at the Nellis AFB Nursery in Las Vegas, as well as cashiered at a Safeway Grocery store. When her children were young, she ran a day care out of her home, and then worked as a “lunch ticket lady” at Lomond View Elementary School.  Lavonda ended her working days at Iomega, working there from 1985 to 1997.

Lavonda was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served as the ward librarian for several years. She also served as a second counselor in the Relief Society, and as a Primary Teacher and Sunday School Teacher.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, and was loved by many. She celebrated her sixtieth birthday by bungee jumping for the first time. She loved parasailing in Hawaii and riding the sky coaster at Lagoon. Her favorite Christmas traditions were writing individual letters to family members instead of gifting, and eating Chili dogs for Christmas dinner.

Lavonda is survived by her husband and four children, Nedene (Lee) Jensen, Sheri (Glenn) Eurick, Tami (Gil) Diaz, and Shanna Stitt.  Lavonda is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sharol (George) Barnett, Carol Larkin, Billie Lou (Larry) Carr, and Gordon (Ann) Owen. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her dear sister and best friend, Bonnie Jean.
