Lawrence Leo Damewood, Sr. died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of June 3, 2011, at age 80 in Layton, Utah following a lengthy illness.

Lawrence was born December 26, 1930, near Harlingen, Texas to Vesta Voorhees and Leo Damewood. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Leola Louthan and Alice Craighead; and his first wife, Freda Mae Parish.

He enlisted in the USMC in 1948, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He later worked as an electronics engineer for McDonnell Douglas, Boeing Aircraft, and the United States Air Force.

Lawrence married Ladene Bird on January 21, 1972, in Layton and was sealed on February 17, 1973, in the Ogden Temple.

He loved gardening and leaves behind one of Layton''s finest vegetable gardens.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Ladene, and five children: Lawrence Damewood, Jr., Allen Damewood (Ramona), Patricia Poulson (Eugene), Joe Levi (Natalie), and Josh Levi (Christina). He left 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Kayscreek Stake Center, 2680 Cherry Lane, Layton. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
