Lawrence J. Heren “Gabby”

July 27, 1949 ~ May 10, 2019

“Not All who Wander are Lost”

On Friday, Larry passed away. He spent his life playing hard and running fast. Unfortunately, he couldn’t outrun lung cancer and COPD. He did take one last ride on the two-lane roads to see the blue sky and clouds and feel the wind on his face, even though it was in the truck. He is now riding free in the wind.

He was born in Richmond, VA to Bert Henry Denton, Jr. and June Medders Jones, and raised by Loyce and Claude Heren and Tommy Gale. He attended Ogden High School and joined the US Army in 1968. When he returned from Vietnam, he bought his first Harley Davidson motorcycle and a lifelong love was born.

Growing up, he had three special friends, Jimmie, Cecil Lee and Bobbie. They were always there for each other and are brothers of other mothers. Even though their later lives went in separate directions, they always had a special place in his heart and his childhood memories.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jule Fowers Heren, sons, Joshua Heren, Shawn Heren and Jesse Vanderhoof (Emily), special nephew, Nick Mills and daughter, Elizabeth Jess Mills who calls Larry her “pa-pous”. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Renee Spade, Ivy Munson and Faith Heren, four great-grandchildren and his sister, Terri Mills.  He was preceded in death by his very special friend, Holly King Mills and he missed her greatly.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to Brett and Jenna from Comfort Worx Hospice, they truly are angels and took care of the old curmudgeon in his final days. They made his final journey so much better.

His friends knew him as Gabby for a reason and we’ll be having a gathering for friends and family  on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South to swap stories and laugh. He absolutely hated funerals and probably wouldn’t even attend his own funeral unless forced, so there will no formal service. He will be interred at a later date in the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.

No flowers please, please consider a donation to Weber County Animal Shelter to honor Larry and his sweet rescue dog, Willow. She stayed by his side and watched over him in his final days.  animalservices@co.weber.ut.us 801-399-8244, 1373 North 750 West, Ogden, UT 84404.
