Lawrence Stacy Garn (Larry), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and coach, passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on May 18, 1932, to Stacy D. Garn and Ada Lorraine Carlson. Larry led a life defined by love, dedication, and service.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Larry found joy and fulfillment in his faith. On August 12, 1966, he married Joyce B. Denning in Las Vegas, a union solemnized in the Ogden Utah LDS Temple, sealing their love for eternity. Prior to Joyce, Larry was first married to Carol Layne.
Larry's passion for softball was legendary. For 45 years, he coached competitive softball, mentoring countless young women and helping many to achieve their dreams of playing college ball. His dedication and expertise were recognized when he was inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame in 2022 as a manager and coach. Softball wasn't just a sport for Larry; it was a vehicle for teaching life lessons and building character.
Beyond softball, Larry had a deep love for gardening, snowmobiling, cheering on the Utah Jazz, and embarking on scenic car rides. He found fulfillment in simple pleasures and cherished spending time with his family visiting with his kids and grandkids.
Larry dedicated four decades of his life to Hill Air Force Base, where he served as the branch chief over the administration office for the director of supply. His commitment to excellence and leadership left an indelible mark on those he worked with.
Larry is survived by his eight children: Jeff Garn, Kevin Garn (Tanya), Michelle Maloney (Jack), Perri Knight (Melody), Randy Knight, Lori Sanders (Greg), Karen Kennington (Bart), and Cindy Bascom (Bill). His legacy extends to his 31 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren, with more on the way. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Stacy and Ada Garn, and his beloved wife, Joyce Garn.
