Lawrence Nephi Payne

Lawrence Nephi Payne, 80, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2107. He was born on December 18, 1936 in Provo, Utah , the son of Harry Berthel and Lorretta M. Moon Payne.
After graduating from high school he attended BYU. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Central Atlantic States Mission.
Lawrence married Maurine Duke on July 11, 1958 in the Manti LDS Temple. He then served in the US Army and National Guard. He attended trade school to become a Sheetmetal Journeyman and later became a Resident Engineer.
Lawrence enjoyed hunting, building, working on cars, reading, and debating. He loved to prospect for gold and was a rock hound. He loved playing games with his kids and grandkids.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maurine; sons, Michael (Teri), Richard (Amanda), and Robert (Julie); daughters, Kathryn (Arlin) Hope and Jennifer (Dave) Hayslip; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; brothers, Harry Jr. (Barbara) and A. Edward (Marilyn); and sister, Marilyn (Eric) Harmston. He was preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson, Marques; and brother and sister-in-law, Sherman and DeeAnn.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Burch Creek 5th Ward Chapel, 4955 Adams Ave, South Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
