Lawrence William Price

May 12, 1957 – January 25, 2014

Lawrence William Price departed this life on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the intensive care unit of the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City with his family gathered around.  As a non-smoker, it was a surprise to discover he was afflicted with advanced lung cancer last year.  He passed away peacefully, confident in the welcome that awaited him from departed loved ones and with a sure knowledge of the resurrection through the redeeming sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Larry arrived in the Black Hills of northeastern Wyoming on May 12, 1957.  His father was Lawrence Thomas Price and his mother was Patricia Joyce Patterson Price.  He and his sister Lori Toupal grew up on a ranch near the town of Newcastle.  Larry was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and served as a missionary in the Washington Seattle Mission from 1976 to 1978.

Immediately following his missionary service, Larry faced an early battle with cancer, which he overcame with the help of surgery and chemotherapy.

Later, Larry attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where he met a beautiful graduate student who was helping to coach the university’s debate team.  Skilled in argument though she was, Larry persuaded her to marry him. Camille Bammes and Larry Price were married August; 29, 1981.  They became parents of two daughters, Christina Camille and Melissa Michele.  The girls moved with their parents to Pennsylvania and to Colorado, where Larry earned a degree in East Asian studies and world religion from The Colorado College.

The Prices arrived in Kaysville in 1995, where the girls grew into young women.  Christina married Lee Clarke and today lives in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England.  Melissa married Quinton Pledger.  They are the parents of Angelle, Branson, Celeste and Deackon as well as Evelynn, who is soon to arrive.

Larry doted on his grandkids.  They gave him enormous joy and he spent as much time with them as he could.  And they gave him enormous hope during the year after his lung cancer was discovered.

Larry faced his final illness with courage and good humor.  The week he found out his situation, he was helping his brother-in-law move furniture.  He and Camille began planning for missionary service, something that had been a lifelong ambition.

But time ran out last week when Larry was admitted to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital with pneumonia.  His lungs, weakened by cancer, were quickly overcome.  Shortly after he and Camille were set apart for their missionary service, he passed away.  Elder Price has moved on to a new field of labor, while Sister Price will carry on to fulfill their calling as a service missionary with the BYU-Idaho Pathway program.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville East LDS Stake Center, 250 South 600 East, Kaysville.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and designated for the Larry Price Memorial Fund.
