Larry "Hoss" R. Speece

I passed away June 14, 2012 at my home.

I was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on March 24, 1946 and adopted by Larry and Kate Krull Speece. Because I weighed only 2 pounds, the Sisters told them that I wouldn''t live. Mother Dear would sneak up and hold me.

We moved to Blunt, South Dakota when I was very young. I have fond memories of family, school friends, band, Cub Scouts, rodeos, horse races and POW Wow''s. We moved to Ogden, Utah in 1957 to Harrison Blvd, where I lived until I went to my Heavenly home. I was baptized in the First Christian Church.

I played Little League baseball, basketball for Central Jr. High and Ogden High School; I graduated from Ogden High School.

During school I worked cutting lawns, and was bag boy at Bush Market. In 1971 I started to work at Weber County''s Old Coliseum for 14 years, and the Weed Department for 1 year.

In 1986 I went to work for Weber County Security in the old city county building until 1997 when we moved to the new Weber Center at 24th & Washington Blvd. I was very honored to be made an Honorary Member of the Ogden Police Department at my retirement from Weber County after 34 years of service.

Ogden Press at his retirement wrote: If you didn''t know the guy, his security presence could give you the impression he might yank your spleen out and stomp on it. Not that he wouldn''t in a pinch. But you''d probably never guess he is someone who passes out candy at work and decorates everyone''s desk with cards on holidays. The giveaway is the booming laugh that loosens bricks.

I never married because I never found a girl like Mother Dear. I had my Dad''s sense of humor and my Mother''s tenderness. I enjoyed sending Birthday and Holiday, especially Christmas, cards to all my friends and family. On his desk is his birthday cards addressed and stamped for the year and 500 Christmas cards are ready to be addressed.

I loved dogs, kids, horses, golf, friends, family, taking pictures, music, cool morning when it''s quiet and the smell of rain.

Thankful for sharing his life are: Edna (Dean) Steinberg, Deborah Ladd, Kathy (Dave) Randby, Jim Cooper, Aunt Esther Oliver, Katherine Hodges, Wayne Burki, Lois (Dick) Hart, Phyllis Krull, Helen King, Ray (Judy) Krull, Ross (Janice) Krull, Peggy (Mark) Bordewich, Ellen Miller and families. He was preceded in death by Dad and Mother Dear, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins Clarence, Arthur, Ronnie, Louis, LeRoy and Marion.

Happy Trails Hoss!!!
