L. Clyde Terry

March 13, 1943 — December 30, 2021

L. Clyde Terry

L. Clyde Terry passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 in Layton, Utah.  Clyde was born at LDS hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 13, 1943 to Leroy and Jane Elizabeth Brooks Terry.

He grew up in Layton, Utah and graduated from Davis High School in 1961.  He then served an LDS mission in Texas from 1962 to 1964.

It was during his mission that he received a great personal testimony that helped him throughout his life.  Clyde attended Weber State College and graduated with a double major in speech and Sociology.  He also received a secondary school teaching certificate.  Clyde passed the Master Barbers test and kept his license current all his life.

While Clyde was attending school at Weber, he met his sweetheart, Sue.  They had a long-distance relationship while Sue was attending BYU and actually proposed to her twice because he knew for certain that Sue was his eternal companion.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on June 27, 1969.  Together they had six children and raised their family in Farmington, Utah.

Clyde served faithfully in all of his church callings.  From being in the bishopric and high council to his most favorite calling of a Cub Master, Clyde was an example of Christ like service in all he did.  He proudly wore the Eagle pins that all four of his sons had earned

Clyde spent 29 years working for the state of Utah in many different roles within the social services field.  Most of this was spent at the administrative level.  He retired from the state and went to work for a private company continuing to work 11 more years in social services.

Anyone that knew Clyde knew that he had a green thumb.  He had a peach orchard with over 125 peach trees that he and his children took care of for 15 years.  Many lessons of hard work and self-reliance were taught to his children there.  Clyde loved gardening, fishing, hunting, bee keeping, spending time with his family and reading instruction manuals.  He loved being in nature.  One of his fondest memories was standing on the shoreline of Tail Lake, fishing with his family.

Clyde is survived by his sweetheart of 52 years, Susan Mae Wood Terry, children Christopher (Heather) Terry, Michael (April) Terry, Jeffrey (Cammie) Terry, Ryan (Peggy) Terry, Amy (Levi) Anderson, Tracie Terry and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Della (Gary) Youngberg and brothers Rulon (Linda) Terry, Douglas (Gloria) Terry and Kelly (Karen) Terry. He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy & Jane Elizabeth Brooks Terry.

Even in the end, family was everything to Clyde.  His last request was to have all his children and their spouses gather together around him and have a family prayer. We are so grateful for the knowledge that families are forever.
