Leah Rae Poulsen Foutz

Our dear sweet mother, Leah Rae Poulsen Foutz, passed away January 25, 2017.  She has gone to join our father Glen into the eternities.

Leah was born November 5, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, She was the beloved only child of Floyd and Carmen Poulsen, and she filled their lives with love and sunshine. Her mother often remarked about what a wonderful child Leah had been, and Leah truly honored her father and mother all the days of her life.

Leah met her sweetheart, Glen A Foutz, while she was a student at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 31, 1957. Leah was grieved when Glen was drafted into military service soon after they were married, but lovingly followed him to Germany where their first child, Cheryl, was born. Back in Utah, one year later, Gayle joined the happy family, followed by Joslyn Michelle, then James, born on his Grandfather’s birthday much to everyone’s surprise and delight. They made a beautiful life together in Clearfield, Utah and spent many joyous summer vacations camping in Tony Grove and St. Charles Canyon and playing in the cool, blue waters of Bear Lake.

Having a great love for children, Leah finished her Bachelors of Elementary Education at Weber State College and persuaded Glen to get his college degree right alongside her. For 27 years she lovingly taught at Wasatch Elementary in Clearfield, Utah where she was loved and revered by her colleagues and students alike.

Leah was a remarkable storyteller and always had a special story to tell the grandchildren gathered round her knee each Christmas Eve. She loved bears, singing, and family parties. Leah enjoyed traveling and visited Hawaii, Europe, and Mexico, but loved trips to Disneyland best.

Leah’s eternal sweetheart passed away in 1985. She later married Duane Harrison on March 25, 1988. They served an inner-city mission in Ogden, Utah and enjoyed family gatherings and traveling together for 25 years.

Leah had a gracious and generous heart and touched many lives throughout her earthly life. She was loved by all she knew, especially her dear family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and ward members and was loved by them in return. She lived a life filled with service and magnified her many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

She will be deeply missed by her four children: Cheryl (Ed) Rogers, Gayle (Mike) Hodges, Joslyn Michelle (Daniel) Glad, and James (Shauna) Foutz, her 15 grandchildren, and her nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment: Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden.

We will miss you, mom.  We thank you for all the sweet memories and look forward to our wonderful reunion in Heaven.  We will miss your beautiful blue eyes and your loving smile, but most of all we will just miss YOU!

Love Forever,

Cheryl, Gayle, Joslyn Michelle, and James.
