Leah R. Hopson
NORTH OGDEN – Leah Rasmussen Hopson passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 in Ogden, from causes incident to age.
She was born August 6, 1912 in Emery, Utah, a daughter of William Henry and Edna Rose Sommercorn Rasmussen. She was reared and educated in Utah, graduating from Ogden High School in 1930.
On October 14, 1932, Leah married Arvil J. Taylor. They were later divorced. On December 3, 1949, she married Frank K. Hopson. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Frank preceded her in death.
Leah was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including two times as President of the Y.W.M.I.A., a counselor in the Stake Relief Society Presidency, a six month Stake Mission in the Genealogy Library, and President of the Relief Society.
During her life she worked for various tailoring mills in Ogden and retired from the Internal Revenue Service.
Leah was a gifted seamstress and thrilled many grandchildren with new outfits. In her later years she took up painting and won several ribbons for her artwork. Leah’s gentle, kind spirit will be missed.
The family gives special thanks to the staff at The Gardens Assisted Living and Intermountain Hospice for the kind, loving care they extended to Leah.
Surviving are two sons, A. Gary (Claudia) Taylor, Fairbanks, AK; LaVall H. (Gloria) Taylor, North Ogden; one step-daughter, Gale (Gerry) Soutiere, Nederland, CO; 15 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and one brother, Delwyne Rasmussen, Fresno, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 4 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Monday 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
