Leah Lloyd Scheffel

July 5, 1931 — September 18, 2024

Leah Lloyd Scheffel passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, at Quail Meadow Assisted Living in North Ogden, UT. Leah was born on July 5, 1931, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania.

Leah graduated high school at the age of 16 and moved to New York City. She got a job working in the insurance industry and attended Columbia University for two years. When she was 24 years old, she went on a blind date and met the love of her life, John Henry Scheffel. They were married two years later on August 24, 1957, at St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Passaic, New Jersey. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage and were blessed with three children.

John and Leah were founding members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ogden. Leah served in many different roles with the church; her favorite position was Treasurer. She also volunteered with Share, an emergency food source for those in need, for many years.

She was a woman with many interests, always eager to tackle a crossword puzzle and a daily ritual of reading the newspaper. Leah loved keeping up with the news, with CNN being her favorite channel, and she always made sure to catch every episode of Judge Judy. A die-hard sports fan, she cheered loudly and passionately for her beloved Utah Jazz and Dallas Cowboys, never missing a chance to root for her teams. Leah had a well-known sweet tooth and always enjoyed indulging in her favorite treats, one of which being Farr’s chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Leah enjoyed reading every book she could find on vitamins, health, and natural remedies. She always had advice on how to take care of yourself or cure just about anything, which surely helped her live to the ripe old age of 93.

She taught us the values of compassion, caring, integrity, honesty, and hard work, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she touched. Above all, Leah was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love, generosity, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Leah is survived by her three children, Susan Scheffel of Superior, CO; Steven (Cindy) Scheffel of Ogden, Elizabeth (Ronald) Larsen of Chugiak, AK; five grandchildren, Amanda (Michael), Jennifer, Christopher (Allisha), Lisa and Andrew; five great-grandchildren, Avery, Jason, Kendrick, Evan and Trinity. Leah was preceded in death by her loving husband, John.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff and caregivers at Quail Meadows Assisted Living of North Ogden and CNS Home Health Care and Hospice Services, Andrea, for their professionalism but most importantly the compassion and loving way in which all these special people assisted us in helping our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We are thankful beyond words.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden. Services entrusted to Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.
