Lela Kate East Gibson passed away on January 5, 2018, from natural causes. She was 100 years old.

Lela was born on August 5, 1917, in Warren (Blossom), Weber County, Utah, to LeRoy East and Katie Lillian Urry East.

She grew up doing farm work and helping her mother with chores and helping with her younger brothers. She enjoyed games with neighbor kids, hunting wild flowers, Indian arrowheads and other artifacts.

She walked to a three room school house with 8 grades, then Plain City School, and Weber High School.

After graduation she worked at the cannery and did live-in housework for households in Ogden.

She learned to do sewing, quilting, and fancy needle work. Grandkids and many others have her perfect quilts and examples of her needle work.

She married Darrell Gibson on March 16, 1940. They resided in Warren and moved to Wilson Lane in 1944 were they resided until the time of their deaths.

She worked in the Weber County Lunch Program at Wilson and Wahlquist Schools.

She was active in the LDS Church all her life holding many positions.

She was quick to provide service to neighbors, family, and friends. She worked as a volunteer at the Hill AFB Thrift Store for 15 years, until just prior to her death.

She was actively involved in doing temple work.

She maintained a beautiful yard and took care of flowers and lawns well into her late 90’s. She could be seen most days taking her daily walk sometimes three miles. When she reached 96 the walks became shorter.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry E. (Linda) Gibson, Danny E. (Carol) Gibson, one brother, Ramon (Lavon) East, 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
