Lela Armstrong Johnson

LAYTON – Lela Armstrong Johnson passed away November 3, 2012 at her home where her family gathered to proclaim their love and last respects. She was born to Oscar Armstrong and Martha Ellen Thompson Armstrong in Basalt, Bingham, Idaho the 5th day of September 1918. She and Axel Delmar ‘Dee’ Johnson were married and later the union was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS Temple. Lela graduated with high marks while she obtained her beautician license in 1938. Because of her skill, she had a large cliental for more than thirty years. During her lifetime she continued to learn and became proficient as an organist, pianist, artist and cook. She learned upholstery, pattern-making and was an excellent seamstress. She made many beautiful quilts, knitted and crocheted many articles. Whatever needed to be done or needed to be learned, she did. Learning and labor was her motto. She served a mission for several years doing temple work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by two of her four children, Marva (David) Rampton of Syracuse; and Duane (Annette) Johnson of Mt. Green; her siblings, Lola Andrews of Salmon, Idaho; Norma Willard of Salmon, Idaho; Carole Eileen (Mike) Cussic of Tendoy, Idaho; Jack (Mona) Armstrong of Salmon, Idaho; Verla (LaVar) Hutchinson of Salmon, Idaho and Verl (Nola) Armstrong also of Salmon, Idaho. Proceeded in death by her husband ‘Dee’, and son Steven, daughter Noreen, a grandson and great-grandson, siblings, Melvin, Kady, Don, Bobby Ray, Mary and Richard. The last three and one-half years she was nursed and cared for by her granddaughter, RN Terri Rampton. Also our appreciation goes to Applegate and especially to Inspiration Hospice for their kindness and care. Friends and relatives may greet the family Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton. Funeral and Interment services will be held in Salmon, Idaho, Thursday November 8, 2012.
