LAYTON - Lela Mae Teeter Rigby passed away peacefully at her home after a short walk on September 2, 2016.
Lela was born November 27, 1929, in Yost, Utah, to Roy and Grace Teeter. A child of the depression era, and one of 13 children, Lela learned early to work hard and to make the most of a dollar.
Lela moved to Layton where she met her sweetheart, Reed Rigby, and fell in love at first touch. She often said, with a dreamy look, “the first time he touched my arm I just knew~” They were married June 24, 1948. Their love bloomed into a home, a garden, and two beautiful, and adoring sons..
Lela worked at Hill Air Force Base. She told stories of her work using the old key punch cards in the massive computers that are obsolete today. She also worked for several years at Beehive Clothing. Lela loved to be in the garden, close to growing things, and working her magic in the kitchen preserving the vegetables and fruits that she and Reed grew together.
Lela was a talented and creative artist. She has left behind a beautiful collection of original treasures. She loved to paint landscapes, flowers, and was also known to paint portraits on occasion. She loved to paint on china dishes and continued to do so until the end of her life.
Lela had 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, whom she adored, and who will miss her greatly. She always remembered birthdays and Christmas presents and her “roll-up pancackes” were the stuff of legend.
Lela’s legacy includes her children: Kevin & Jaclynne Rigby; Stan Rigby & Hope Andreason; her grandchildren: Alicia (Kevin) Hatch, Jessica (Tony) Smith, Lydia Rigby, Connor Rigby, and Olivia Rigby, and her great grandchildren: Chloe, Madison, Cash, Scarlett, and Dax Hatch; and Indie and Eden Smith.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband Reed Rigby, her granddaughter Lydia Rigby, and her 14 siblings, Tom, Walt, Vernon, Cleo, Donald, Ray, Laverl, Marvin, Gladys, Alberta, Jeanette, and Anna.
As her family, we extend thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice and to members of the Country Creek Ward, Janeen Passey, Becky Lowder, Norma Spears, and others who were of great service to our beloved mother and grandmother.
