Leland "Lee" Bailey

Leland “Lee” Bailey OGDEN – Leland “Lee” Bailey passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at a local nursing home from complications of a stroke. He was born August 20, 1920 in Logan, Utah, to Ernest A. and Evangeline Davies Bailey. He was the third of six children – two daughters and four sons. Receiving an education in those troubled times was very trying, but his father and mother always impressed upon him the importance of knowledge and hard work for progressing in life. True jobs were mighty scarce but he found work and worked in government CCC Camps for some time. Lee married Cleone Boyle Crosbie in 1941. They had one son, Kent. They later divorced. In 1943, he received his induction papers for military service. He spent time in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was wounded in Luzon, Philippines and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (with one Bronze Star) and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. In June of 1947, Lee married Wanda Williams and they were the parents of five children, one son and four daughters. Wanda and Lee later divorced. In 1985, he married Dolores “Lori” Heslop and they celebrated 25 years together as of May 10, 2010. Lee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in past years held numerous positions in the church. He retired from Pillsbury Company in 1980, but kept busy with many other things. Lee was able to fix almost anything until his health started declining. He liked things orderly and clean. Lee had a wonderful tenor voice and loved listening to music. Lee was an avid sports fan. He loved all sports, but especially baseball because he played a lot of it in his younger years. He also enjoyed fishing and liked teaching grandchildren or other family members the art of putting a worm on the hook. Lee loved his family and was always proud of their accomplishments whether it was educational, athletic, missions for the church, or the military. Surviving are his wife, Lori, of Ogden; six children, Kent (Colleen) Bailey, Grace, ID; Gary (Debbie) Bailey, serving a mission in Cote D’ Ivorie Ivory Coast; Wanda Lee (Alkemia) Denhalter, St. George; Susan McMillan, Ogden; Jean (Stewart) Bridge, Salt Lake City; Julie (Chris) Jugler, Ogden. Girma Hundo came into the Bailey Family as a result of a grandson’s mission to Kenya. Girma and Stephanie have added two beautiful children to the family. Lee has 25 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren with more on the way. Also surviving is one sister, Elizabeth Grant, Ogden. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ernest Dean, Claire and Blaine, and one sister, Fay. Lee will be greatly missed, especially by his wife Lori. The family expresses special thanks to the staff at Washington Terrace Health Services for their loving care of Lee, and also to Hospice of Utah, especially Brett, two Lisa’s, Stephanie, Kevin, Debbie, Sandy and Kathy. We hope no one was missed because they were wonderful. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, where Military Honors will be accorded. Family will meet friends at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
