Leland Joseph Bates, Sr.

Leland Joseph Bates, 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Ogden, Utah.
He was born on September 22, 1925. He married Barbara Joan Nielson on November 5, 1946. They were later sealed in the Ogden Temple.
Lee enjoyed his career at Union Pacific Railroad.
He served in the Navy and the Merchant Marines.
When he retired, he and Barbara spent their time traveling. They enjoyed trips to China, Scandinavia, Portugal, Spain, North Africa, and Russia. Lee enjoyed bowling and played on several leagues in the Ogden area. He loved all sports and could often be found sitting on a comfy chair enjoying a ball game. He held season tickets to Weber State Men’s Basketball for over 30 years. Lee enjoyed spending time with his family.
Leland is survived by his daughter-in-law, Rosanne Bates, Hooper; Carl (Penny) Bates, Clinton; Debra (John) Boatright; Roy, 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bates and Verna Louise Christensen, his brother Stanley (Bud) Bates, his sister Mary Louise Bates’ and one son, Leland Joseph Bates, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Sandridge Ward, 4900 South 2000 West. The family will meet with friends Wednesday, October 24th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
