Leland Henry Florence, Jr

ROY - Leland (Lee) H. Florence, Jr. passed away July 20, 2013 surrounded by family. He was born February 10, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Leland Henry and Goldie Brian Florence.

He married Beverly Joyce Harbertson on August 13, 1951. They were later divorced. He then married DeLone Yeates March 17, 1990.

He was reared and educated in Ogden graduating from Ogden High School in 1946. He served eighteen months in the army with the occupation troops in Japan. He loved the Japanese people and enjoyed their customs, an experience he always talked about. His continued studies earned him a bachelor''s degree from the University of Utah and later his masters from George Washington University in public administration. He also became a CPA and helped many people with their tax returns.

Lee also served a two year LDS mission in the Northwestern states. He was active in his church serving in many positions. Most of those years of service were spent as ward finance clerk. He always said that was the best job in the church.

He retired from Hill AFB in 1986 after 32 years of civil service. He spent most of his career at Hill as a supervisor in accounting and finance, including Deputy Accounting and Finance Officer. He retired as Deputy Comptroller for the Base, a job he enjoyed very much. He had many fond memories of the Base and his fellow workers.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing. His favorite fishing partner was his wife Dee. They spent many hours and days fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Dee would usually out fish him which thrilled him.

Surviving are his three sons and one daughter; Leland Kim Florence (Jacci) of Layton, Larry Robert Florence (Cathy) of San Francisco, CA, David Ryan Florence of Roy and his spoiled baby daughter and love of his life Kristine Montgomery (Riley) of West Point. He also has three step daughters and one step son all of whom he was also proud; Sharri Ewing of Ogden who also spent many selfless hours caring for Lee and Dee, Dee Larry (Don) of Weaverville, CA and Linda Kloose (Jerry) also of Weaverville.

Also surviving are three brothers; Stanley K. Florence of Layton, Joseph H Florence and Brian R. Florence both of So. Ogden. He is preceded in death by his wife Dee, grandson Joshua Florence and step son Richard C. Broby.

He leaves behind 30 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Monte Vista LDS Ward Chapel, 3845 S. 2000 W., Roy. Family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening, July 24, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
