Our sweetheart, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, Leland Stephen Crowley, Sr. "Lee", returned home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 31, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Although Lee finally surrendered to congestive heart failure, he surpassed the predicted survival time by many years.
Lee was born September 12, 1926 to Stephen Andrew and Anne Spaulding Crowley in Los Angeles, California. His parents had moved to California to find work during the depression, but later moved back to Hooper and Ogden, Utah where Lee was raised. He attended Hooper, Pingree, Quincy and Madison grade schools. He attended Central Junior High and graduated from Ogden High School.
On March 4, 1946, Lee married his sweetheart, Inez J. Lake of Ogden. He joined the LDS Church on January 15, 1985 and within a year became a High Priest. On June 30, 1986, Lee and Inez were sealed for time and eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple. Over the years, the couple were blessed with four children, one son and three daughters, who were the joy of their lives. They have also been blessed, thus far, with seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who they dote on when given the opportunity.
Lee and Inez raised their family in Ogden. Lee worked for the Arsenal for four years before accepting a position with Swift and Co., where he stayed until the closure of the local plant 26 years later. Lee loved learning and when Swift & Co. closed he chose to return to school at Weber State College to gain additional skills. After two years, he accepted an offer to work as a machinist for Johnson Controls. He and Inez moved to Clearfield until Lee''s final retirement, 20 years later. In December of 1993, they moved to Syracuse where they lived for several years before moving to Roy to be closer to children.
Lee enjoyed building things and remodeling houses. He had purchased and remodeled several houses over his lifetime and received great pleasure in being able to create useful and attractive structures from those that had seemed in disrepair. He also built furniture, toy-boxes, stools and other things for his grandchildren. He was always eager to teach his grandsons how to hold a hammer and pound a nail. The children cherished the time they spent with grandpa. Lee loved interaction with even the smallest of all his grandchildren and was even open to babysitting and watching Sesame Street with them. He could often be found having lengthy conversations with the toddlers and was enthralled by how their young minds grew and evolved.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Inez Crowley; three daughters, Rhea (Ray) Fullmer, Patrecia (Jeff) Webster, and Peggy Ohlson (Nordenstrom); grandchildren, Shane, Misty, Jennifer, Pam, John, Matthew, PJ and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Don, his son, Leland Stephen Crowley, Jr. "Steve" and a great-granddaughter, Rainey Jo.
The family would like to thank the Intermountain Hospice for their wonderful love, care and support during the past several months.
