Lema passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 in her home surrounded by her loving, immediate family. Lema was deeply loved and admired in her life. Her presence brought indescribable enhancement to the lives of all those she touched.
Lema was born on November 18, 1940 in Lotofaga, Western Samoa to Ta’ase Vila and Sitagata Vagatai.
She married James Doyle on August 8, 1967 in Fagatogo, American Samoa. She eventually moved to the U.S. with James and became an American citizen on December 9, 1980 in San Francisco, California but made her permanent home in South Ogden, Utah.
Lema was a store manager at Ernst Home and Nursery where she met and worked with many people who loved and adored her.
She loved golfing, even becoming a club champion at Willow Park Golf Course in Castro Valley, California.
She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she also made many friends and met many people whose lives, she would touch. Helping others was part of Lema’s life no matter what was going on, stating, “It’s just what I do.” Lema will be greatly missed by everyone near and far.
Lema leaves behind her husband, James Doyle; son, Michael Doyle; grandchildren, Vaimalu A’etonu, Silulu A’etonu-Grey, Felix A’etonu, Vaea A’etonu, Madison Tausala Fuchs, and Daniel James La’auli Fuchs, and great-grandchildren, VaiosIna A’etonu, Vila James A’etonu, Vaimalu Aron A’etonu, Soliauli A’etonu-Grey, Lealofitaute “Gigi” A'etonu-Grey, and Agaimalo A’etonu. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jewel Ella Doyle Fuchs and son, Vila Loa A’etonu.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Highland LDS Ward Chapel, 5855 Skyline Drive, Ogden, UT 84403. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd., Ogden, UT 84403.
A luncheon for family and friends will be held following the services at the church.
