Lena Stevens Hansen (June 11, 1926 a€" October 21, 2007)

CLEARFIELD - Our beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully at home on Sunday October 21, 2007. She was a breast cancer survivor for 11 years and courageously faced a recurrence of bone cancer which ultimately allowed her to join her sweetheart just 4 weeks after he was called home. She has been the shining light of faith, hope and love in each of our lives and will be greatly missed.

Lena was born on June 11, 1926, in Bloomington, Idaho to Rayford & Verona Stevens. She was raised in Bear Lake County, Idaho and later moved to Utah where she has lived in the Davis County area for the past 50 years. Lena played clarinet in her high school band and graduated from Fielding High School. She married Duane Hymas Hansen on March 3, 1947. Together they raised five children. She loved her country and chose to help during World War II by working at the Defense Depot in Ogden at a plant that manufactured ammunition for the U.S. military. She also did her part when she supported her husband''s decision to re-enlist during the Korean War. She is a true patriot and taught her family to love and honor America and those who defend freedom.

Duane and Lena were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 23, 1966 for time and all eternity. Their lives have revolved around the love and care of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lena was a loving wife, tender-hearted Mother, and a fun and caring friend. Her great faith and fervent prayers were a constant beacon that guided her daily and sustained her through many trials. She nursed her husband through many years of illness and provided constant love and encouragement throughout their marriage. She and Duane were committed to caring for their children in their home and never gave up hope that it would all be worth it. She had a great sense of humor, remained cheerful, never complained and was the eternal optimist. She was a wonderful example of humility, meekness, patience, charity, generosity, perseverance, diligence, loyalty, kindness, endurance and Christ like love.

Lena chose to devote herself to a full time career as wife, mother and homemaker. She always put the needs of her family ahead of her own. She supported her husband through each employment choice, was a bookkeeping genius and together with Duane provided very well for their family. Lena was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed a good joke, beautifying her home and yard, shopping, music, Community Theater, visiting friends and playing the organ. She loved butterflies, sunflowers, roses, carousels, figurines, eagles, flags and everything red, white and blue! Her greatest joy came from her family and she made each one feel special. She loved family gatherings and looked forward with great anticipation to each opportunity to gather her children and grandchildren together to share a meal, testimonies, and hear updates on every family member''s life. Lena was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in various callings throughout her life. She especially enjoyed serving with her Relief Society sisters. Lena taught the importance of serving God, family and country and cherished these three as her highest priorities.

She is survived by two sons, Clark Duane Hansen of Clearfield, and Dee J. Hansen of Clearfield; two daughters, Kim Nichols (Greg) of Bountiful, and Joy Nielsen (Jay) of Clearfield; daughter-in-law Beverly S. Hansen of Centerville; a brother, Calvin (Linnie) Stevens of Orem; a sister, LaRae Sorenson of Logan; two sisters-in-law, Linda Stevens of Benson and Linnea Stevens of Bountiful; eleven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
