“Together Forever”

LAYTON – Lena “LeAna” passed away on January 19, 2014 at the age of 91.

She was born on March 28, 1922 in Loa, Utah to Israel Justice and Nellie Virginia Perkes.

On August 25, 1937, she married William Cecil Ames in Richfield, Utah. Their vows were solemnized in the Salt Lake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple on November 29, 1956. William passed away on January 24, 1978. On March 5, 1981, she married Sam Lipari in Layton, Utah. Sam passed away on April 14, 2006.

She grew up with three brothers and three sisters and had hard-working and good parents. They all learned to be gardeners, cleaners, cooks, home canning to preserving fruits, vegetables, meat and how to care for their farm animals. So, she turned out to be a hard worker, a great cook and seamstress. She made clothes, draperies, quilts, Holly Hobby type dolls, Raggedy Ann & Andy type dolls, sock monkey dolls and more.

Lena loved being outdoors working in her flower gardens. She had a green thumb. She loved her Iris plants the most and belonged to the Utah Iris Society. She really enjoyed collecting rocks of all sizes and shapes. She also enjoyed quilting, family history and sharing information and ideas via her computer. She always made every holiday fun, decorated beautiful Christmas trees and cooked the best holiday dinners. We always went to parades, rodeos, Easter egg hunts and family reunions. Also, she worked hard and long to compile and organize a personal family history and genealogy library to document generations of our ancestor’s lives. She loved to meet others who she could talk with and share family history.

Lena is survived by a son and three daughters, Sam Ames (Carlene) of Roy; RaLayne Ames-Marriott (Karl) of Ogden; Colleen Ames-Wood (Mel) of North Ogden and Merry Ann Ames-Bates (John) of Clearfield. She is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, Dale Shipp (Zeny) of Layton; Don Perkes (Dorothy) of Roy; Marie Turley of Crosby, Texas; Ellis Rasmussen of Indianapolis, Indiana and Joann Sonoda (Noble) of Mohave Valley, Arizona.  She has 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by her son, Ron Ames of Grand Junction, Colorado and her brother, Marian Shipp of Salt Lake City, and grandson, Jeff Wood.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
