Leo Neeley Harris
WASHINGTON TERRACE - Leo Neeley Harris, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at his home on Christmas Eve day, Wednesday, December 24, 2008 of leukemia.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1928, in Preston, Idaho, the oldest child of Melvin and Letha Harris. Leo was raised and educated in Preston, Idaho where he married his high school sweetheart, Verla Bright, after graduating from Preston High. Together, they raised 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, whom they considered their greatest treasures on this earth.
In 1986, Leo retired from Hill Air Force Base after a devoted and distinguished 36 year career as Chief of Management Services Division, Directorate of Distribution. All who worked for Leo loved him for what he was, a humble but firm, fair administrator who expected no more from his employees than himself.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Washington Terrace 12th Ward, Leo was a lifelong servant of the Lord where he held the positions of Bishop, Stake President and, until his death, Temple Sealer. Some of his greatest joys were performing the marriage ceremonies of his grandchildren in the temple.
When precious time permitted, Leo loved to fish, hunt and most of all, spend time with his family camping at Lava Hot Springs. He also spent many hours researching family genealogy, something he considered very important.
Leo leaves behind an incredible legacy full of love, giving and selflessness that will be looked upon by many for generations. His gentle strength and calm voice of authority will be sorely missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to share time on this earth with such a wonderful man.
He leaves behind his wife Verla, three sisters, Aileen and Jay Jackson, Helen and Merlin Ward, and Ann and Mark Nielsen, all of Ogden; one brother, Owen and Gloria Harris, California; three daughters, Linda and Doug Nay, Diane and Scott Grange, Jann and Kenny Edwards, and one son, Dee and Gina Harris, all of Ogden; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Letha Harris, daughter Gloria Lee Harris and two granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle Nay.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 29th at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 5th Ward Chapel, 350 W. 5100 S.
