He was born on July 31, 1917 in North Ogden Utah to James Edmund Jones and Hazel Bell Berrett. He had one brother, Max and two sisters, Teresa and Phyllis.
Leon attended Ogden City and Weber County schools.
He served an L.D.S. mission to Sweden finishing in Kansas as the second world war began. After returning home, he married his sweetheart, Margaret Cragun, on October 17, 1940 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They made their home in Pleasant View where they have lived for the past 63 years.
Leon was a loving father, a great teacher and example to his seven children who loved him so much in return. He was an active, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a ward clerk, a councilor in the bishopric, High Priest group leader, and ward executive secretary to the bishop and was a dedicated Home Teacher.
He worked for Kennecott Copper and retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after 34 years. He also was a bus driver for the Weber School District for many years. He was a hard working man.

He loved gardening and kept his yard beautiful. He loved traveling with his wife, golfing, working in his woodshop and mostly spending time with his family.
