Leon Larsen
NORTH OGDEN a" Leon Larsen was reunited with his sweetheart, Eula, on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the age of 91.
Leon was born July 13, 1919 in Logan, Utah, the fourth of five children born to Otto J. and Esther Spring Larsen. He lost his father at the early age of 13 and assumed the responsibility of working on shares for farmers to feed the family cows and other animals. He attended school in Cache Valley and was at the same time employed by local farmers.
He married Eula Poulsen on October 9, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. She passed away October 18, 2009 just nine days after their 69th anniversary.
Leon and Eula made their home in Logan until 1944 when he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He could have received a deferment because at that time, he was working on the railroad, but he chose instead to serve his country. He felt a great love and patriotism for his country.
Following the war, he worked for Utah General Depot in Ogden until a serious industrial accident. He was then employed in maintenance for the LDS Church and drove a school bus for the Weber School District for 17 years.
Leon resided in Harrisville for 47 years where he and his wife raised four children.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in different callings including two Stake Missions. His favorite calling was as Young Men''s President. He enjoyed the association and fun events with the young men of the ward.
Leon''s hobbies were fishing, hunting and working in his well-equipped shop. He loved traveling with his wife and friends in travel trailers. They also loved going on guided tours. He and his wife spent 10 years wintering in St. George with friends. Leon was a great storyteller and will be remembered most for his version of the story of Old Ephraim. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.
Leon is survived by his children, Ron, Plain City; Gaylene (Keith) Dabb, Plain City; Shari (Allen) Stephens, Kaysville; Larry (Linda) Roy; 25 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Milton, Dorothy, Norma, and Glen, his daughter-in-law, DeeAnn Larsen and his wife, Eula.
The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff of Legacy Home Health Care and Hospice for the love and served they gave to both of their parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Family will meet with friends at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
