Leon Sanchez Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
OGDEN - Leon Sanchez, 86, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 19, 2012. He was born on April 22, 1926 to Jose Leon and Juanita Valdez Sanchez in Monticello, Utah.
He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. A few years later he married Annie Morfin on April 30, 1948 in Aztec, New Mexico. They were married 64 wonderful years.
Leon was an usher at New Hope Assembly of God where he served as a Deacon until his passing. He loved his Bible and faithfully read it every night. Children knew him as the "Sweet Candy Man" at church.
Dad had his own song he sang to all of his grandchildren, to get them to sleep, calm down or to express his love to them. He told the best scary ghost stories while camping with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He was an expert when it came to gardening. He was a fabulous wood worker and craftsman.
Leon is survived by his wife, Annie M. Sanchez, Ogden; son, Daniel (Maria) Sanchez, Farmington; daughters, Percilla Rodarte, Clinton and Lydia (Jesus) Gutierrez, Layton; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Eulogio "Buddy" Sanchez and Ernest Sanchez and sisters, Maggie Ortiz, Juanita Vega and Leona Chavez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Leon and Juanita Valdez Sanchez; brothers, Emilio Sanchez, Macario "Max" Sanchez, and Gilbert Sanchez, and sister, Helen Garcia.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
