Leon W. Slade
UINTAH – Leon W. Slade, 68, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 13, 1941 in Panguitch, Utah, a son of James Ray and Magdalyn Worthen Slade.
On December 18, 1961, Leon married Edloe Viola Woolley for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop, on the Stake High Council, High Priest Group Leader, and an early morning Seminary Instructor. He was very well read in the scriptures and his favorite calling was as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher.
He received his bachelor’s degree in computer information and business management from Weber State University and worked as a small business owner and mortgage broker.
Leon loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of time camping with the family along with many other outdoor activities. He enjoyed working with the youth and served as Scout Master and Explorer Leader. His scouting service also included Woodbadge Counselor and Course Director. He was a talented musician and had a great love of music.
Surviving are his wife, Edloe, two sons and two daughters, Michael Leon Slade, Russell John (Theresa) Slade, Jennifer Rae (Jeff) Kendell, Cheryl Ann (Travis) Bybee and 13 grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Royden Slade, and three sisters, Fern Sevy, LaRue Miller, Marie (Jerry) Nelsen.
He was preceded in death by one son, Alan Lane Slade, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any America First Credit Union Branch in Leon’s name.
