December 23, 1927 - July 4, 2021

Leona Gwendoline Olinger Hachmeister, 93, passed away July 4, 2021 in Layton, Utah.  She was born December 23, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Leo and Lily Olinger and welcomed by her older brother, Donald E. Reno.

Leona met Marvin E. (Whitey) Hachmeister through the Civil Air Patrol in Chicago and married February 7, 1948.  They began their life together with the United States Air Force and the US Forest Service.

She enjoyed skeet/trap shooting, hunting, fishing and bowling with her husband.  After his death she began cruising the world in the winter and golfing in the summer.  She volunteered for many different charities.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Whitey and daughter, Lynn Anne Hachmeister.  She is survived by four daughters, Beth (Bruce) Campbell, Carol Hachmeister, Gail Hachmeister Robison, and Nancy Hachmeister; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A viewing will be held 7:00 p.m. July 15, 2021 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield, Layton, UT.  Interment will be 11:00 a.m. July 16, 2021 at Fort Douglas Cemetery, 405 Chipeta Way, Salt Lake City, UT.

A remembrance will be held beginning at 3:00 PM July,16 at 993 W 2250 N Layton, UT.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Utah Search Dogs utahsearchdogs.org founded by her daughter, Nancy.
