Leona Wise

Leona Petersen Wise passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 from causes incident to age in Farmington, Utah.

She and her twin sister Iona were born May 30, 1925 in Thatcher, Utah to Peter Carl Peterson and Amy Olene Petersen.

On August 23, 1942 she married James Francis Wise in Malad, ID.  Together they raised three children and celebrated 51 years of marriage until his passing in 1993.

Leona was tenacious and hard working with a "good old soul". She worked as a welder during WW2 and was employed as a computer programmer and systems analyst at Hill Air Force Base for 35 years until she retired in 1981.  She was an avid gardener and loved to spend time in her garden. Her roses were the "most amazing on the block." She also loved to crochet and created many beautiful works of art that won ribbons at the State and County Fairs.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her strength in adversity earned her the nick-name "Tough old Bird". She is survived by her children, John Wise, Virginia O'Grodnick (Tom) and Christine Watkins; three grandchildren, Ryan Watkins (Nikki), Amber Watkins-Olpin (Chris), and Adam Watkins; four great-grandchildren, Myles Watkins, Rhett Watkins, Aria Watkins-Olpin and Eden Olpin, her twin sister Iona Winn, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Jim Wise; her parents, Peter and Amy Petersen; sister, Dorothy Chambers; brother, Peter Petersen and her sweet great-grandson Luke Ryan Watkins.

Private graveside services will be held Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Honeyville Cemetery, W. 6900 N., Honeyville, UT. A family visitation will be held Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
