Leonard Webster Hill

Leonard Webster Hill died Friday, March 29, 2013 peacefully in his sleep in Layton, Utah. Leonard was born February 16, 1932 in Kaysville, Utah to Leonard and Martha Blanche Webster Hill. He had one brother, Glen W. Hill (Margene) and sisters Jean Brink (Lloyd), Odessa Harris (Jay), and Gay Ongley (Gary).

Leonard went by Jr. all through his younger life. He enjoyed raising calves for junior livestock shows and loved a good horse. He was an outstanding athlete at Davis High and was on both the 1949 championship basketball and football teams. During his high school years he also developed a great love for rodeo.

Leonard married Texie Jayne Thornley May 29, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children. Heidi Hill (Kaysville, UT), Kevin L. and LeRae Moss Hill (Kaysville, UT) David T. and Kim Anderton Hill (Kaysville, UT), Jayne and Brice Barkdull (Kaysville, UT). They have 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Leonard worked on the family farm in West Kaysville with his father and brother. In 1981 he sold the Kaysville farm and he and Texie bought a ranch in the Sunset Valley of Halfway, Oregon. Leonard and Texie left their grown children in Kaysville and began their new adventure and Leonard''s dream. Halfway soon became the favorite destination for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While in Halfway Leonard served as Branch President of the Pine Valley Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for seven years. The Branch members loved him for his common sense approach to the gospel. Leonard also served as President of the RMRA, was Young Farmer of the Year in 1960, President of the Utah Young Farmers, manager of the Intermountain Jr. Livestock Show, served 10 years on the Fire Board in Halfway and was a charter member of "The Table of Knowledge" at the Halfway Feed & Seed. He was a valued source of information to many neighbors for all things related to horses and cattle.

Leonard had a long struggle with his health since 2004 when he suffered a stroke. He still ranched for seven more years in spite of declining health. Their 30 years in Halfway were a blessing to them and to everyone who knew them.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen, and brothers-in-law Lloyd Brink and Gary Ongley.

We would like to thank Eric, Shauna, the CNAs and staff at Pheasant View for their loving care for our dad over the last few months.
