Leonard Earl Hill completed his 95 year mission in earth and returned to the presence of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.
He was born September 2, 1916 in El Reno, Oklahoma to William Robert Hill and Bertha Samantha Lawrence.
Leonard came to Utah at the age of four and was raised at Conner Springs, Box Elder County, Utah and attended school in Corinne. Starting at the age of five he worked with his father and brothers farming and herding sheep.
On July 18, 1938, Leonard married Nellie Wilma Dial in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in September of 1965. They were friends and sweethearts for 74 years and were married for 68 years before her passing in 2006. Their union produced five children, Robert Leonard (deceased), Gary, Rodney, Judy and Randy.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leonard held leadership positions in the Elders Quorum and High Priests.
He spent a short time in the military during World War II. He also worked in construction for many years. He was employed by Tooele Army Depot working at the rail yard on HAFB, repairing and shuttling government locomotive engines all over the country, retiring in 1971 after 30 years of Federal Service.
After retirement, Leonard spent many hours in his garden; traveling with Nellie and enjoying family gatherings and trips. He probably listened to over 900 books on tape, thanks to the Utah Library for the Blind.
Leonard was a loving husband and caring father. He is survived by his children and their spouses; Gary Joe (Kae), Rodney Earl (Arlene), Judy Kay Parker (Karl) and Randy Brent (Katy).
His long life allowed him to enjoy five generations of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Leonard''s love, kindness, and generosity had touched many lives and we will all miss him.
SO MANY THANKS to his good neighbor and friend, Larry DeGroot and to all the ANGELS at the George Wahlen Veteran''s Home for their loving care of our sweet dad.
