Leonard Lawrence Mayes

Leonard L. Mayes, 97, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.  He was born on April 15, 1917 in Worthington, MN to Clifford Dennis and Elizabeth Emery Mayes.  He grew up and lived in a variety of Midwest communities. 

He married Marjorie Maxine Robb on January 11, 1939.  In 1944 Leonard and Maxine moved with their two young daughters to Ogden, UT.  It wasn’t long before they fell in love with the mountains which they enjoyed immensely.  On December 5, 2010, Marjorie passed away. Leonard and Marjorie loved to travel all over the United States from the east coast to the west coast.

Leonard worked as a civil service packaging and logistics technician for 37 years.

He loved his four motorcycles.  There was not a thing with an engine he couldn’t fix. 

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Frances Lee Mayes (T. Samuel) Vigil, six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; daughter, Karen Mayes Carlson; son-in-law, Henry Carlson; and sisters, Julia Ruther and Leona DeGuise.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
