Leonard Rumsey

Leonard Asa Rumsey

January 2, 1914 ~ March 9, 2014

Leonard was born in Lajara, Colorado to David and Lillie Culler Rumsey. Growing up on the family farm, riding horses to church and herding sheep, he talked of taking a horse team and wagon into the mountains with his brother and cutting trees for the families winter heat while yet a teenager.

On January 22, 1936, Leonard married Edith Steele. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with five children. However, Edith’s health began to decline and she died while in surgery due to complications.

Leonard then married Mildred Deines on July 26, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple. Mildred began the task of working with Leonard to combine two families as she brought an additional daughter to the marriage. Together they brought two additional children into the world. Mildred died just sixteen days prior to dads passing.

His career started at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS, during World War II. He continued his career in Utah at Hill Field, from where he retired. He spoke fondly of missionary service in the Tempe Arizona Mission and his many church callings.

His children are Shirley Rumsey (deceased), Leonard and Patricia Rumsey (deceased)/Linda Rumsey (deceased), Delbert and Dawn Rumsey, Gail and Earl Mark, Pamela and Lynn Milligan, Jim and Dawn Rumsey (deceased)/Joan Rumsey, Carl and Mary Rumsey, Edith and Kraig Chugg.

Our families’ gratitude goes out to the tender service rendered by the staff at Lotus Park Care Center and the several Hospice agencies that provided care.
