Leonard “Jack” Petersen, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 6, 2014.

He was born in Ogden, Utah, a son of Leonard Neil Petersen and Juanita Davis, on October 27, 1930. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1948 and from Utah State University in 1958 with a Bachelor degree in Business.

Jack was in the U.S. Air Force for three years and served his country in Germany during the Korean conflict.

In August 1988, Jack retired after 30 years of service at Hill Air Force Base where he was a Supervisor Systems Accountant. He graduated from the Air Force Comptroller School and the Air War College Seminar Program. While at HAFB, Jack received many performance awards for his outstanding accomplishments, including the highest civilian award that can be achieved.

Jack was a member of the Golden Spikes Elks Lodge where he volunteered for many years on multiple programs until his health failed him. He loved working on the Elks College Scholarship Awards committee.

Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and they loved his special BBQ sauce. He was always so proud of their accomplishments and encouraged them to achieve their goals. Jack was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed golfing with the Armstrong Group at Royal Greens and with his wife in Lake Havasu. Jack and Peggy were Lake Havasu, Arizona Snowbirds and spent 20 winters meeting and enjoying many lifelong friends. While in Lake Havasu, one of the activities Jack enjoyed most was charity work, volunteering every year for the Susan G. Komen Golf Tournament.

Jack married Margaret Patricia (Peggy) Gately on August 30, 1979, at Lake Tahoe, California. They were married 34 years. Their extended family includes Jan Favero Chambers (Joseph), Natalie Favero Taggart (David), and Stacie Favero Barnes, along with 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren living across the United States. Jack married Elva Jean Flitton in 1955, and they had three children. They were later divorced. Their children include Christine Osborn, Neil Petersen (Karen), and Tina Paterakis (Randy), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Christine Osborn, and son Neil Petersen.

Jack is survived by his wife, Peggy Petersen; sister, Colleen Mecham (Roy); children Tina Paterakis (Clinton), Jan Chambers (Providence), Natalie Taggart (Layton), Stacie Barnes (North Ogden); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12th at 2 PM at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Friends may visit with family prior to the services from 12:30 -1:30 PM at the mortuary.

Interment will be at the Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
