Leota Gibson
August 10, 1923 ~ October 22, 2015
"Leota from Minnesota" passed away early in the morning of October 22, 2015 from causes incident to age. She was born in Welcome, Minnesota August 10, 1923 to Charles and Alvina (Bork) Swift.
Leota was educated in Welcome graduating from Welcome High School in 1941.
In 1943 Leota moved to Ogden and began her 31 year career at Hill Air Force Base where she retired in 1974.
In 1949 Leota married Edward Ernstrom and they had one son, Lee Edward Ernstrom. Edward passed away in 1962 and later that year Leota married Lemuel Gibson. The two of them enjoyed the next 25 years together camping and fishing and traveling. Lemuel passed away in 1988.
Leota was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and Mary Circle. She was also a member of NARFE (the National Association of Retired Federal Employees). She volunteered at RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) from the time of her retirement from HAFB until approximately 2013.
Leota is survived by her son, Lee (Beckie); three grandsons, Joel (Robyn), Kenneth (Marci), David (Tina); one granddaughter, Jenna (Derrick) Bingener; ten great grandchildren, Alec, Tatiana, Liz, Matt, Scott, Ashley, Bridget, Spencer, Abby, and Charles; one sister LaVonne Bonnie Johnson; one sister-in-law, Eunice (Dean) Swift; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Leota was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Warren Swift and Dr. Dean Swift; and one sister Betty Swift.
The family wishes to thank all who made it possible for Leota to remain in her home for as long as she could, especially her caring neighbor Lew and Linda Hathaway, senior Companions Natalie, Joan and Helen, Legacy's Homecare /CNA's Jody, Tiffany, Kilee and Kim, Meals-on-Wheels driver, Bill and her many friends who visited and did so much to fill her lonely days. Appreciation also is extended to the staff at the Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living facility in Clearfield and to the wonderful friends Leota met during the short time she was there from June to October.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Elim Lutheran Church, 575 23rd St. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and on Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Internment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery.
