SOUTH WEBER - LeRoy H. (Roy) Poll passed away March 9, 2016. He was born August 2, 1923, in South Weber, a son of Charles Vernon and Stella Thompson Poll. He married Venice D. Slater in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, September 11, 1946.
Roy attended Clinton Elementary through 8th grade and graduated from Davis High in 1941. He served honorably in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was awarded five battle stars and the Bronze Star Medal for duty in the European Theater of Operations. Except for his military service, two years in Clearfield, and six years in the San-Francisco Area, he resided in South Weber his entire life. He was employed by the Federal Government for 36 years and was serving as Deputy Director of Distribution at HAFB when he retired in 1977. He was then employed as a realtor where he took special pleasure in helping young couples acquire their first home.
He served as President of the South Weber Town Board and became the first Mayor of South Weber City. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving faithfully in a variety of positions including ward clerk, bishop's counselor, bishop, high councilor, patriarch, counselor and president of the Ogden, Utah Weber Stake the first president of the South Weber Utah Stake. Further, he found great joy in serving as a sealer in the Ogden Temple since July of 1980. Except for his wife and family, he loved his associations in church service above all else.
Roy enjoyed sports. He especially loved to watch and cheer on his kids and grandkids. He took up golf after retirement and looked forward to his rounds of golf for several years.
Although he is no longer with us physically, Dad has left a legacy of unconditional love, hard work, love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, unselfish service, and utmost integrity. He was a man of honor, and a loving husband and father. His family will always treasure Sunday nights at Dad and Mom’s as a time to laugh, play, eat cake and ice cream, and rejoice in just being together - a time when cousins became the best of friends. He was always “humbly pleased” with his kids and grandkids and told them often.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Venice (Peaches), of South Weber, and his children: Sandra Burton (Dee), Layton; Gary (Jill), Centerville; Doris Gubler (Lamar), LaVerkin; Craig (Jackie) and Michael (Debby), South Weber; Scott (Peggy), Kaysville; and Tamara Williams Glauser (Lynn), Syracuse; 28 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.
