Lester V. Andersen
Lester V. Andersen of Layton, Utah returned with honor to his Father in Heaven on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the age of 92.
He was born on October 28, 1915 in Vineyard, Utah to Victor and Elenora Andersen. He was proud of his Danish heritage and was a faithful lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served many callings throughout his life.
In 1933 after high school graduation he left home for Idaho Falls, Idaho to earn enough money to help save his parents'' farm and home. He was able to do that on a salary of twenty-five cents an hour.
Lester married Elvira and together they raised a family of three daughters and two sons. Lester and Elvira celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year and they were honored by the City of Layton with a special open house.
Lester worked for Rogers Brothers Seed Company for 45 years. He held many positions of responsibility both in the company and in the community. He was a master carpenter and also did architectural work.
Lester loved music and composing poems that expressed his grateful reverent love of nature. With all his many talents he considered his greatest to be the love of his wonderful wife and family.
Lester is survived by his wife Elvira Ward Andersen, daughter Gloria Jean Barnhouse (Don), son Thayne Robert Andersen (Sharon), son Arben K. Andersen (Peggy), Cathryn Jo Shearer (Hal), and Marilyn Sue Poulsen (Lynn). Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two sisters, Norma Andersen Lewis, and Barbara Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Bernard Andersen, Howard Andersen, Lena Andersen, Iris Nuttall, and Mabel Andersen Bunker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Valley View Stake Center, 1589 East Gentile. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 12:30 to1:30 p.m. at the church.
