Lester Valencia

October 21, 1949 ~ April 8, 2017

Lester Valencia passed peacefully in his home on April 8, 2017 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by the many friends and family he so dearly loved.

Lester was born October 21, 1949 in Ogden, Utah. He was the oldest of five brothers and two sisters born to Millie Valencia. He was raised primarily in West Point by his Grandpa, Mypa Valencia.

Lester graduated from Ogden High School and served our country in the Vietnam War as a soldier in the United States Marine Corps. He was later employed at Hill Air Force Base as a missile technician, where he worked for 36 years. He was also a member of the Utah National Guard.

He married Nancy Marie Loyola on June 2, 1969 and together, they raised their children: Sonny (Kim), Mike (Jennifer) and Leslie in Roy, Utah. They also generously shared their home and their time helping many nieces and nephews as well.

More than anything in this world, Lester loved his family. He loved cheering on his children and grandchildren in sports and in life and was so proud of the family that he and Nancy had created.

Lester & Nancy also loved camping in their trailer in the summer in Morgan at Round Valley Golf Course and in the winter in Yuma, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mille Valencia and his brother, Bernie Valencia. He is survived by his wife, three children, seven grandchildren: Tyson (Amanda), Mikkol (Sean), Alex, Trey, Cooper, Izec & Kaycee, two great grandchildren: Addy & Derek, and their dog Bailey. He is also survived by his siblings: Mario, Cookie, Elias, Johnny, Nina and Christina.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who helped Lester over the last 21 months to aggressively fight for every last minute with his family and friends. In particular, the family would like to thank the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dr. Sharma, and Inspiration Hospice Care.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Wednesday, April 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
