Former Nurse’s Aid and Layton resident Letha Marie Machen Wood, 102, died September 2, 2014 at her home in Layton, UT.
She was born June 13, 1912 in Rexburg, Idaho to Minnie Edna Preston and Thomas Hile Machen. Mrs. Wood grew up in Rexburg where she graduated from Madison High School and later attended Rick’s College and studied art.
She married Walter Wood November 30, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They farmed in Rexburg for over 40 years. He passed away in 1978.
Mrs. Wood worked at the Ray Rigby Hospital in Rexburg as a nurse’s aid before her marriage.
She and her husband helped raise several foster children in their home. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She served on the Primary Stake Board 15 years, on the Genealogy Board 15 years, in the YW organization, and was a visiting teacher in Rexburg, Logan, and Lehi over 75 years.
Survivors include three foster sons and one foster daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, and two foster sons.
Services will be held Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road with Branch President Richard Pehrson officiating. Friends may visit with family from 9 to 9:45 prior to the service. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
