Lewis Edward Briggs

Lewis Edward Briggs passed away peacefully at his home on August 17, 2015 where he was tenderly cared for by his wife Leah. He was born January 23, 1920 to Thomas Roy and Hattie Briggs. Lewis was raised and lived most of his life in Syracuse, Utah. He earned the ranking of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Davis High School, earned an Associate Degree from Weber State College, and attended Utah State University. He served in the Northern States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a dedicated member throughout his life.
In 1944, Lewis married June Cook in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He proudly served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. Lewis was a successful and respected farmer, taking great pride in his labors on his farm in Syracuse, where he and June raised their four sons, Richard, John, Dean and Kevin. Lewis also had a long and exemplary career as a firefighter at Hill Air Force Base.
After June’s passing in 1987, Lewis married Leah M. Carpenter in 1989. This union expanded Lewis’s circle of extended family.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence and Dale, sister Joan, first wife June Cook, his son Richard, and Leah’s son Barry. He is survived by his wife Leah, his sons John (Donna), Dean (Robyn) their children Crisanne, David, Michelle, Dallin, Janette; and Kevin Briggs; and Leah’s children Vicki (Dennis) Eldridge, Pam (Val) Youngberg, and Charity DeSpain. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lewis loved and was loved by many friends and his extended families.
A special thanks to Pam and Val Youngberg for their daily care these past years. Also, a thank you for the recent care from Dr. Woolman, Tiffanee, Elaine, and Lisa at Applegate HomeCare and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the West Point 7th Ward LDS Chapel, 2300 West 550 North. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist's Roy Mortuary.
