Lewis Dean Hampton

Lewis Dean Hampton, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, of natural causes in Ogden, Utah. He was born in Shelley, Idaho, on January 1, 1926 to Dean Alexis and Nanna "Irene" Nordby Hampton. His father passed away when he was just 10 years old. He spent much of his early years working the family farm in Harlem, Montana - milking cows, thrashing grain, topping beets, and learning the value of hard work. He was a self-made and successful man.

He joined the US Navy in January 1945, and served in the Atlantic as an electricians-mate aboard the USS Washington and the USS Massachusetts. He began work as an electrical equipment specialist at Defense Depot of Ogden in 1949, and later transferred to the Tooele Army Depot, moving his family to Tooele in 1966.

Lewis married Betty Jeanne Bronson in Ogden, Utah on November 25, 1950, and raised four children. They later divorced, but remained close friends for many years.

He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and loved to have them stay at his summer-home in Big Arm, Montana a€" where they learned to water ski on the cold waters of Flathead Lake. For ten years Lewis gathered his family together each summer to laugh, play, and forge strong bonds of love and appreciation. Lewis also loved to dance.

Lewis was a generous man to many in need. He loved to help others who were down on their luck. Often, helping people he did not even know.

Lewis is survived by his children, Carol (Mike) Smith, Glee (Tim) Foltz, Scott (Pam) Hampton and Fay (Guy) Warr; 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. They will miss his concern and thoughtfulness. He never forgot a birthday, sending cards to each of his loved ones year after year for over 30 years.

A brief Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to extend appreciation to the excellent staff at McKay Dee Hospital. Especially, the 5th floor medical nurses, CNA''s, and Dr. John Wood. The care and compassion they provided to Dad was exemplary and will not be forgotten. Also, a special thanks to the amazing IHC hospice nurses, who are angels that walk among us.
