Lewis Eugene “Pete” Poggemeyer Jr., beloved husband, father and grandfather suddenly left this earth on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, leaving a Pete shaped hole in our hearts.
Pete was born on October 28, 1946 in McKeesport, PA. Part of a Marine Corps family, he grew up on both coasts. He attended Kansas State University and earned his degree in Architecture. It was at KSU that he met and married a Kansas girl, Karen West. After working for the State Architect in Kansas, the family moved to Northern Utah in 1975. Pete worked for several architectural and engineering firms in Ogden, Logan, and Salt Lake City, including Case, Lowe & Hart, Design West, MHTN and Edwards & Daniels, and for McKay Dee Hospital before entering government service with the Treasury Department.
Pete was active in the Ogden community from the first. He served on the Ogden Planning Commission for eighteen years, was on the Board of Directors for the Eccles Community Art Center and took part in the founding of St. Anne’s Center (now Lantern House). Pete was one of the charter members of the Hostler’s Model RR Club.
Pete was an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church and served the parish of The Good Shepherd for 36 years. He served as a chaplain at Primary Children’s Hospital for five years.
Pete is survived by his spouse, Karen; daughters, Sarah, Liza and Becca; grandchildren, Rory, Katie, Brigit and Dannan; and his younger brothers, Rick (Mary) and John Poggemeyer; and his baby sister, Peggi (Jan) Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Big Lew and Medium Aureline Poggemeyer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 24th & Grant Ave., Ogden, with a reception to follow. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Pete’s name to the Good Shepherd Foundation, Youth Impact or Lantern House.
