SUNSET –Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Earl Craig, Ret., 92, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 16, 1922 in Plum Creek, Nebraska, a son of James Barger and Eleanor Austin Craig.
He married Furl Hayes on June 13, 1942 in Olympia, Washington. They were happily married for 46 years. After her passing, he married Laura Olsen Hayes in 1991. After her passing he married Margaret Gallegos Sandoval Morris in 2001.
He lived in Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma, and Texas. He moved to North Ogden in 1963 and to Sunset in 1969 where Ronald resided the rest of his life.
He graduated from Ogden High School in 1939. He owned his own construction company, built and tuned pipe organs, and was an accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker.
He is a World War II Veteran serving in France and Germany. He is a Bronze Star recipient. He retired with 40 years of service to include four years in the US Army and 36 years in the Army National Guard.
His hobbies were golfing, hunting, wood working, gardening, and dancing.
Surviving are his five children, Ronald A. (Ann) Craig, Kaysville; Gary (Barbara) Craig, Texas; Judy (Val) Hyer, Huntsville; Lyle (Cheryl) Craig, Oregon; Jim (Tina) Craig, Washington; 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Genevieve.
He was preceded in death by Furl, Laura, Margaret, and his great-grandson, Tyler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. where military honors will be accorded.
