Lila Duncan Larsen
November 18, 1929 ~ February 4, 2017
Our kind, loving, friend and mother Lila Duncan Larsen, age 87, passed away of causes incident to age at her home in Ogden, Utah, on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Lila was born in Neola, Utah on November 18, 1929 to Katie and Joe Duncan. She was a city girl raised on a farm in Neola.
Lila left the Uintah Basin to attend college at BYU. Her education was put on hold when she married Richard Larsen and had five children, Nancy, Dave, Bryce, Katy, and Sam. Lila and Richard enjoyed an active life raising their family and being part of the Ogden business community. They also enjoyed the outdoors with camping, skiing, and traveling to Central America, Mexico, and Europe.
Eventually, Lila was able to complete her education at WSU, where she was also employed. Lila, Bryce, and Katy graduated together from WSU in 1979, with Lila earning a BS degree. Lila then continued her education at the U of U earning an M.A. in Art History.
Lila worked as assistant Director of the Springville Museum of Art. She had an exceptional talent for organization and making friends, and set up the volunteer and docent program at the museum. Lila was also involved in the art community in Ogden and the Eccles Art Center. She was named Utah Art Educator of the Year. Lila was also an accomplished artist in the mediums of water color and oil.
Lila enjoyed club activities where she has many friends. She participated in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Mystae Literary Club, Ogden NewComers, and square dancing. Lila was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She participated in many callings, including roadshows, and teaching the cultural refinement class. Lila was a great example to her kids and friends of having a full and fun life, and she touched many lives.
Lila is survived by her brother, Ron (Mary) and her children Nancy Sloper, David (Pam), Bryce (Melinda), and Katy Larsen. She has seven grandchildren who affectionately called her the “g-unit.” The grandkids are Justin and Ian Sloper, Steve, Kailey Larsen-Parker, Matt, and Katie Larsen, and McCall Larsen-Bennett. Lila enjoyed spending a lot of time with her grandkids and though she was known as the “worst golfer in the world,” taught all her grandkids to golf at Golf City in Ogden. Lila has four great-grandkids, including Meghan, Paisley, Jane, and London. Lila was preceded in death by husband, Richard; brother, Clair (Lurrine-still living); and son, Sam. Lila will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
