Lila Walton Shaw
11/29/1921 –8/27/2011
Lila Walton Shaw, a resident of Roy, Utah passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 27, 2011. She was 89 years old. Lila was married to Blair Shaw for over 62 years until his death in 2006.
Lila Walton was born in Raymond, Alberta Canada on November 29, 1921
to Ida Ann Paxman and Charles Walton. Her older sister, Iona, was
born in 1915. At age 41, Lila’s mother died and left her father a
widower when the girls were nine and fifteen. After Ida’s death in
1930, Charles left Canada and eventually settled in Ogden, UT. At a
church function, he met Mary Ellen, who was widowed in 1935, and left
with four young boys. On December 23, 1936 Charles married Mary Ellen
Barker (Chugg), and settled in Pleasant View where they worked her
farm and combined to raise their sons and daughters. In the new
Walton family, at the age of fifteen, Lila inherited four new
brothers, the Chugg boys, and later baby siblings Marian and Dennis
Walton. Lila’s large family knew her as the one with a lively
enthusiasm for life.
On the last day of 1943, at the age of 22, Lila married Blair R Shaw
and the couple was later married in the temple for all eternity.
Blair’s family owned a big farm in Liberty and here the couple settled
to farm and raise their family of five children. Lila was an active
member of the LDS church throughout her life where her considerable
talent for writing plays, church talks and wonderful poems were put to
good use.
Five children survive their mother: Myrna Pettengill (Roger), Sheldon Shaw (Janine), Kerry Shaw, Lonnie Shaw (Patty) and Donna Linford (Jeff). Lila’s 18 grandchildren, (one deceased), 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren (one preceded her in death) gave her much joy throughout her life.
They remember their mother for her bubbly personality and lively humor
combined with her energy and hard working ethic. Her poetic and
spiritual nature was always evident to them.
The family owes a debt of gratitude to Julie and Bobbi from
Intermountain Hospice for their compassionate care.
