Lillian “Jeanne” Pope Page Clark
7/8/1933 ~ 1/16/2014
WEST POINT, UTAH – Lillian Jean “Jeanne” Clark, 80, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014 at home with family by her side.
Jeanne was born on July 8, 1933 in Linton, Indiana to Millard “Mickey” Isaac Pope and Lena Mae Liddil, the youngest of three children and their only girl.
Mom almost died at age 6 due to appendicitis – during emergency surgery, her appendix burst in the doctor’s hands – but she proved to be resilient, a trait that carried her through two open heart surgeries and two separate cancer diagnoses.
She married Dale Alvin Page on December 24, 1949. Conception proved challenging, yet after 7 years, Brenda Gale Page (Frost) followed by Steven Dale Page was born. Their travels brought them to Utah, where they settled. Unfortunately, after 16 years of marriage they divorced. Again, she was resilient and did the best she could to raise her children, primarily on her own.
In her spare time between raising her children and working, she took up square dancing, where she met Wayne Samuel Clark. They shared a passion for square dancing and were married in 1973 after a brief romance. In 1975, Wayne and mom organized and managed the Square Dance Association World Convention at the Salt Palace. Thousands of square dancers, both domestic and international, participated in this weeklong even. Wayne passed away on July 27, 1998.
Square dancing was a source of pleasure and pride; she even designed and made all of her own square dance attire, and due to her petite frame and tailored outfits, was often referred to as the “Little Barbie Doll”.
Mom was tough and could be headstrong; however, above all she was caring, gentle, and accepting. This was particularly evident in her devotion to her grandchildren, who could not have asked for, nor be given, a better grandma. We already miss you, and will be forever in your debt for your love, warmth, kindness, and indefatigable support and acceptance. You taught us much, and your influence will live on long after the sorrow of your parting fades. May the joy you brought us in life come again as memories of you warm our hearts.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter and son, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, Wayne Clark; two brothers, Robert James Pope and Millard Lee Pope.
The family will have a “family service” at the Graveside at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the office of Dr. Vincent Hansen for their kindness, love and professionalism as we cared for her together. We also express our appreciation to LaDawn at Advocate Hospice for her loving support during mom’s final hours.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
