SOUTH WEBER – Lilyan Juliette Lewies Sanders, age 82, left us to reunite with her cherished husband, Smokey on November 27, 2013. She was born on July 31, 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Fred and Berta Elizabeth Keck Lewies, her father was from South Africa and her mother from Basel, Switzerland. She married Russell Dee “Smokey” Sanders on April 6, 1950 in Elko, NV, their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Lilyan grew up in St. Anthony, Idaho and worked for many years in Warm River, Idaho. Her family owned the “Three Rivers Ranch” at Warm River which is located 57 miles southwest of Yellowstone Park. She made an effort every year to stay at one of the cabins at Warm River.
She attended school in St. Anthony until 10th grade, then attended St. Mary of-the-Wasatch in S.L.C. and graduated in the year of 1949. She enjoyed very much playing the piano for the LDS Church in Relief Society and Primary where she served faithfully for 26 years. She taught the “Stars” in Primary. She and her daughter-in-law, April loved volunteering to play the piano for the residents of Country Pines in Clinton. Lilyan had many talents and hobbies, some of them included, piano, ceramics, knitting, camping, and fishing. She loved her group of friends, especially a group of women they called the “Widow Wagon”. She was a good thoughtful neighbor and friend. She loved being with family.
Lilyan is survived by her son, Michael Fred (Ronda) of Ogden; daughter, DeeAnn L. Woods of Willard; son, William Shayne “Sandy” (Shannon Lora) of West Weber; and son, Robert Daniel “Bob” (April) of West Weber; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, infant son, Russell Scott, and her brother, Harry J. Lewies.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
