Linda R. Barker

Linda Ruth Barker PLEASANT VIEW – Linda Ruth Vaughn Barker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007 surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Born to Augustus “Gus” and Margaret Vaughn of Hooper, Utah on December 29, 1940, she was the oldest of 10 children. She married her longtime sweetheart, Sherman L. Barker, on September 18, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have eight children and 35 grandchildren. Linda was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving others. She had many callings including working in the Primary, Sunday school, Young Women’s Presidency, and as a Relief Society President. She joyfully served as an ordinance worker with her husband in the Ogden Temple for six years. Some of her fondest memories were growing up with her siblings and cousins in Hooper. She graduated from Weber High School in 1959 where she was involved in many activities. She served with one of the first groups of candy striper volunteers at the Dee Hospital in 1958. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for 45 years. Linda loved gardening, reading and being with her family every week on “sisters day”. She also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren at her Bear Lake cabin, swim parties and other family gatherings. Linda had a wonderful sense of humor and quickly made friends by scattering seeds of sunshine everywhere she went. Surviving are her husband of Pleasant View; her children, Sherma (Steven) Tew, Park City; Kathy (Brent) Neal, North Ogden; Chris (Rod) Chambers, North Ogden; V. Brent (Sherri) Barker, Farr West; Lynette (Brian) Kap, Highland; Aaron (Shanna) Barker, Kaysville; LeAnn (Jon) Ostler, Farr West; Karen (Phillip) Clawson, Willard; and 35 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s parents, Peary and Jenness Barker, and her sister-in-law, Fusako (Kimi) Barker. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View Chapel on 3602 North 500 West, with Bishop Robert Nielson officiating. Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
