Linda Sue Matthews Gardner
Linda completed her assignments in this life and graduated with honors on Friday November 20, 2009. The last test was the hardest but it was her finest hour as she demonstrated to us her incredible strength, faith, grace and humor. Dear Linda, what an example you have been to us all as you dealt with the cancer that ravaged your body!
Linda was born June 13, 1948 in Barstow, CA to Thomas Wesley Matthews and Norma Warner. She was raised in Las Vegas, NV and graduated from Las Vegas High in 1966. She attended BYU and graduated with a B.S. in elementary education in 1972.
Linda married Harry M. Gardner in the Provo Temple October 4, 1974 and made their home in Las Vegas. Linda had a daughter from a previous marriage named Denise, who was sealed to Harry in the Salt Lake Temple. Within four years, three more adorable little girls (Debrah, Karrie, Krista) were added to the circle of love. The family moved to Farmington, Utah in 1979. In 1984 a fifth child was born, you guessed it, another beautiful little girl they named Stacey.
Linda devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing wife, mother and nana. Linda worked as a substitute teacher in the Davis school district for 13 years and enjoyed attending the temple weekly. She loved to laugh and held season tickets to the Desert Star Theater where she enjoyed many musical comedies. She loved to eat out, take long walks with friends or family, dancing and going to the movies.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Harry Gardner, a sister Nancy (Fred) Lang, brother Gary (Vicki) Matthews, sister Sandy (Gene) Ettinger, and her children Denise Charlton, Debrah Gardner, Karrie Moss, Krista Gardner, Stacey (Jonathan) Henderson and eight awesome grandchildren: Chase, Winter, Bridger, Kierra, Alyssa, Gage, Preston and Rylee.
